The story of Sean Heuston and The Mendicity garrison is well known.

It merited only a small paragraph in our Annual Report, the Committee being more interested in its avowed aim of relieving poverty:

Owing to the Sinn Fein Rebellion that took place in the City of Dublin during Easter  week, the committee regret to say that the premises were taken possession of by members of the Sinn Fein Society, and as a consequence the house was considerably injured.  The sum received from the Government was ₤286-15s but the Committee had to expend ₤391-9s in absolutely necessary work.
