The Mendicity Institution has been in operation for over 200 years. Since 1818, we have been continuously helping those who are homeless, poor and marginalised. Our food and employment services still survive today. However, in the past we offered additional supports such as our transmission service – offering fare for passage home or to emigrate to a new life. Mendicity has survived many turbulent times in history including the Famine, 1916 Rising and many more.

HISTORY OF MENDICITY
In 2018, Mendicity celebrated it’s bicentenary by compiling the charity’s 200 year history into an exhibition, held in Pearse Street Library, Dublin, and prepared in partnership with Yellowstone and independent researchers. Below is a copy of the exhibition, which offers a concise account of Mendicity’s extensive history.
